After years of research and billions of dollars spent, stem cell research is promising, but how close are we? Dr. Jon LaPook shows us ‘Where America Stands’ on stem cell research.

President Obama’s lifting of federal restrictions on the use of embryonic stem cells in scientific research has generated considerable news coverage and many questions from our supporters about the impact of this reversal on our own research. Our most promising new stem cell investigations are on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS), which are created by reverse-engineering cells from readily available skin samples. MRF COO Rusty Bromley has made this brief video about MRF’s use of stem cells in myelin repair and the potential they offer for myelin repair in MS. Please send us your questions regarding MS and myelin repair research to info@myelinrepair.org We will be creating more videos to answer YOUR questions. @Ajax4Hire I don’t think I have ever met a libertarian as ignorant as you. The only involvement of the government in the NIH is to fund it and appoint the figure-head (who is only really there to look pretty). You are literally saying, “the less funds the government puts to research, the faster research will move forward.” Purely inane.
The private research sector is good at researching only things that make them fast cash; hence we have more ED medications than antibiotics.
wtf is atom smasheer
Quit relying on the Government to do everything for you.
Just because President Bush forbid the Federal Government funding does not mean that YOU cannot experiment with embryonic stem cells.
You do not need the government to do everything for you.
In fact you want the government to do as little as possible. Only then will things get done. Think of what new and exciting science is coming out of Europe. LHC, oh please, they closed the atom smasher.
Abortion is wrong.
I support a couples right to choose (and you should choose life).
Stem Cells can save lives.
Quit blaming the Federal Government.
There is nothing stop anyone, everyone from using embryonic stem cells, nothing.
The GOVERNMENT does NOT have to fund it for it to happen.
Get over it, your government does not have to do everything for you. do something yourself.
how do i get stem cells for ms
very informative..my god how i researched online and still didn’t understand the different types of stem cells and where they get them from and how but this makes it more clear..thnx!!
Thank you for clarifying the distinction between the types of stem cells and for keeping us apprized of MRF activities.
